Parkhead Community Primary School

The Gateshead Shape team was delighted to support Parkhead Community Primary School's Art Week following a request from the Head Teacher to contribute to the celebrations.
Working with local artist Katie, we organised an inspiring session for pupils that combined careers education with hands-on creativity. Katie began by delivering a careers talk, sharing her own journey as an artist and introducing pupils to the wide range of opportunities available within the creative industries.
Following the presentation, pupils took part in an exciting space-themed workshop, where two classes designed and built their own 3D model houses. The activity encouraged imagination, problem-solving and creative thinking, while giving children the opportunity to explore art and design in a fun, interactive way.
It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and creativity on display, and we were pleased to support the school in inspiring the next generation of creative thinkers.
"It was a pleasure working with imaginative and inventive year 5 pupils at Parkhead Primary School. I invited the children to design their own 3D models of houses which could help them to live on another planet. Some children focused on gadgets and tools which would be useful for everyday life, while others focused on making the most decorative, colourful homes which expressed their personalities brilliantly! There was lots of experimentation, problem solving and creativity in these wonderful interplanetary homes." - Katie Watson, Artist and Arts Facilitator
