Riverside Routes

Riverside Routes Kangaroo Hop

Child from Gibside School
Riverside Routes is a creative programme by the Gateshead Arts Development Team helping people connect creatively to the riverside along the Tyne Derwent Way.

The Tyne Derwent Way is a 9 mile stretch along the Rivers Tyne and Derwent from Gateshead Millennium Bridge to the National Trust property Gibside. A consortium of partners are working together including The National Trust, Tyne and Wear Buildings Preservation Trust and many more. Discover more about the Tyne Derwent Way

Schools projects are co-created with schools, colleges and artists, and producer Elizabeth Kane. They explore heritage, culture, and nature along the route.

Schools and colleges that took part in the September 2023 to April 2025 were invited to make an expressions of interest. Education partners were targeted based on their proximity to sections of the route. We worked with children from year 2 through to year 12.

This project is funded by UK Shared Prosperity. We hope to continue the programme after April 2025. Schools will be able to express interest based on a call out through the LCEP or targeted emails to geographically appropriate schools.
