Gateshead Art Workers Network

On a beautiful sunny day in June, teachers from the Art Workers Network were given an informative guided tour around Saltwell Park led by Brian Rankin, a local gallery owner, who passionately showcased the vibrant work of local artist Charlie Rogers. Rogers' art, deeply rooted in the history of the park and Gateshead, sparked lively discussion and admiration among attendees who will now build his artwork into their school curriculums. Brian also provided all of the teachers with a pack of resources and invited them to the upcoming exhibition about Charlie Rogers at Gateshead Library.  The tour was punctuated with sketching activities facilitated by Paul Merrick. His activities not only offered practical ideas for creative work with children but also promoted the importance of mindfulness and self-care through art. Participants found the experience both relaxing and invigorating, taking time to connect with nature, reflect, and explore their own creativity. The session was a perfect blend of artistic inspiration and personal wellbeing, providing delegates with knowledge about the local artist and a range of ideas to take back to their own settings .
