About the artist

Robin is a freelance animation artist, he designs and runs bespoke participatory animation workshops and animation projects. Robin has over twenty years experience working throughout the north working in many schools, colleges and universities as well as with other cultural institutes like Tyneside Cinema, Farrell Centre, Beacon Films, Helix Arts, Arts Centre Washington and the Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival to name just a few.

Robin designs workshops around the participants and project outlines but a typical workshop can cover all aspects of stop motion animation production and the history of animation in general.

Robin offers taster sessions that last 1-hour, half-day workshops, full day workshops and extended period projects. Workshops usually include the following - History of animation with examples and toys, even animating the participants themselves; planning for animation; story development, character and set design; character and set construction; script writing; sound production and animation techniques.

Robin has a number of pro computers with cameras and all participants are shown how to use these to produce stop motion animation with easy to use animation production software that is ideal for all ages. Robin also offers CPD sessions to teachers and education establishments where he can show how he have used animation to teach many other subjects. Robin also works with adults and young people as well as with children and has much experience in other specialised environments such as with nuero-divergent, SEN and PMLD participants. 
 

The most recent projects Robin has worked on are:

Animex International Festival outreach project Animexperience working with 5 primary schools in the Middlesbrough area at Teesside University. I have been working with the festival for over 20 years now. 

Nenthead Mines working with adults to produce animations inspired by the old mines and the surrounding area of the North Pennines. https://northpennines.org.uk/mining-animation/ 

Working with Gateshead Youth Assembly and Gibside School to produce an animated response to the Riverside Routes Project, producing 2 films about the sculptures found along the riverside. 

Literacy Loans working with Tees Valley Museums and 3 local primary schools to make animations inspired by objects loaned from museums. 

Working with Year 3 at Pannal Primary School in North Yorkshire over 2 days to teach the history of animation and to produce lots of small group animations across the whole year group. 

Beacon Film, supporting young neuro-divergent and disabled people in the Newcastle area to produce animated sequences for an original music video they are making.
