David is a playwright, director, actor and theatre maker. He facilitates drama workshops for young people, co-create plays and direct.
Aside from his youth theatre work he has written award winning professional plays, directed and acted across media from theatre to TV and radio. I have worked for RSC, BBC, Live Theatre, ITV, Bolton Octagon, York Theatre Royal among others.
David has many years' experience creating original theatre with young people and has been leading Gateshead Youth Theatre for many years. They regularly devise their own plays and the group perform in the Caedmon Theatre.
David is currently leading a youth theatre group at Theatre Royal, where they are devising our own play based on the Japanese folktale of Hinnagami (an evil doll that grants wishes but brings misery to its owner).
David has been a lead facilitator/director at Live Youth Theatre for many years.
David taught drama at Newcastle College for 14 years in which he directed many large- scale productions including The Tempest, A Midsummers Night Dream, Road, Macbeth and Mother Courage to name a few. He also co-created plays with the students, creating immersive performances.
